Demonstration against shortage of teachers in Ampaa’rai

Students and their parents of 21 schools in Akkaraipattu and Poththuvil Education Zones in Ampaa’rai district staged a protest demonstration Wednesday against the acute shortage of teachers in the above schools, Ampaa’rai sources said. Hundreds of persons including religious and social dignitaries participated in the demonstration.

The protestors who gathered in front of Poththuvil Jummaa Mosque marched to the Zonal Education office and Divisional Secretariat carrying placards and banners displaying their demands.

The demands, besides others, called for the posting of more teachers and not to cancel the transfers of some teachers.

The demonstrators handed appeals addressed to Akkaraipattu Zonal Director of Education, Provincial Director of Education and Provincial Ministry of Education through the respective government department officials.
