Schools in Jaffna to reopen Monday

Directors of Education in Jaffna peninsula met Saturday to explore possibilities of reopening the schools for the second term and to find alternate arrangements to continue education for the students of the schools where civilians from Vanni are being held, sources in Jaffna said. It was decided in the meeting to reopen all schools in the peninsula on 27 Monday and to enable the students of the schools appropriated, to study in the schools located close by, based on a shift system, Education Department sources said.
The students of the schools in which the civilians from Vanni are held will be following their studies in the schools near by either in the morning shift or afternoon shift. The civilians are held in Mirusuvil Roman Catholic School, Kodikakaamam GTMS, Kodikaamam Thirunavukarasu Viththiyaalayam, Chaavakachcheari Hindu College and Chaavakachcheari Ladies College in Thenmaraadchi. In Vadamaraadchi the civilians are confined in Nelliyadi Maththiya Maha Viththiyaalayam. The students of the above schools will follow the alternate arrangement, the sources said. In the event of more civilians from Vanni being brought to be held in Jaffna peninsula, Education Department officials have earmarked six more schools in Vadamaraadchi and Valikaamam areas. The students of these six schools will be found similar alternate arrangements to continue their education uninterrupted, the sources said.
