Sri Lanka Army (SLA) and Police jointly conducted several cordon and search operations in the Tamil villages of Chaampalththeevu, Nilaave'li, Chelvanaayakapuram, and Kanniyaa in Trincomalee district Tuesday. Police said the operations were conducted to check infiltrators entering Trincomalee town and its suburbs.
About fifteen Tamil civilians including several youths were taken in for questioning by the police as they failed to give satisfactory reason for their presence in the location. They are being detained and interrogated in police stations, the police said. Meanwhile, more SLA soldiers and police personnel have been deployed on foot patrol in Trincomalee town who continue to check and interrogate pedestrians and cyclists on the roads.
