Family man knifed to death in Jaffna

Unidentified persons knifed to death a family man in Thurkkaapuram, a village close to Sri Lanka Army (SLA) High Security Zone (HSZ) in Thellippazhai Thursday night during curfew hours, sources in Jaffna said. The victim had been sleeping outside his house and his family members saw his body Friday early morning and informed Thellippazhai police.

The victim was identified as Nanniyan Thavachandran, 45, a resident of Thurkkaapuram in Valikaamam North.

The body with knife cuts to the throat was recovered by the police and handed over to Jaffna Teaching Hospital mortuary.

Mallaakam magistrate Mr. Prapakaran directed the police to investigate into the killing.

This is the third killing in the same manner in this particular area.

On 6 March morning, residents of Punnaalaikkadduvan, located close to Valikaamam Sri Lanka Army (SLA) Front Defence Line (FDL) found in their village a toddy tapper seriously injured with knife cuts to his throat and rushed him to Jaffna Teaching Hospital. The injured man succumbed to his wounds at the hospital.

During the latter part of 2008 a family man was knifed to death during curfew hours outside his house on his bed in Wyman Road in Jaffna.
