Jaffna DDC meeting postponed again

Jaffna Government Agent (GA) K. Ganesh informed that the Jaffna District Development Committee (DDC) meeting scheduled to take place 5 May has been postponed indefinitely. This is the second time the DDC meeting is postponed during the current year. The DDC, comprised of Sri Lanka Minister, Douglas Devananda, Governor of Northern Provincial Council and Tamil National Alliance (TNA) Jaffna district parliamentarian, Mavai Senathirajah, is responsible for the planning and implementation of development projects of Jaffna district.

The Jaffna DDC, appointed to plan and administer development projects and ensure normalcy in Jaffna peninsula, following the Sri Lanka Army (SLA) closure of A9 land route and the ensuing war, has never been convened since its origin, despite much publicity by the government, Jaffna Secretariat sources said.

The reason for the conitinous postponements of Jaffna DDC to meet is not known whether it is due to security or any other reason.

The development of Jaffna district which depends on Jaffna DDC suffers stagnation, civil society sources in Jaffna said.
