British Deputy High Commissioner visits Vavuniya

The British Deputy High Commissioner, Martin Hill, made a one day visit to Vavuniya to find out more about the situation there and in the Vanni from officials. He was accompanied by Peter West, the Deputy Head of the South Asian Department in London.

The British team met K.Ganesh, the Government Agent in Vavuniya for a discussion that lasted two hours.

They visited the welfare centres to inspect the situation of the displaced people.

They also met the ICRC, UNHCR delegates and top level army officials.

Sources said that the British team was eager to learn more about the general situation of refugees in welfare centres and about other refugees resettled and relocated in the area.
