President Chandrika Bandaranayake Kumarathunge yesterday ordered the Inspector General of Police to immediately take into custody the Gampaha district People's Alliance Praliamentarian, Jinadasa Nandasena, and his son who are both contesting the Western Provincial Council Election, scheduled for April 1, as PA candidates.
The father and son were alleged to have been engaged in acts of thuggery and obstructing the election campaigning of opposition parties. The President issued these instructions as soon as she heard reports of the Parliamentarian being engaged in malpractices. The secretary of Jantha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP), Telsin Silva, in a letter to the President had said that the M.P Jinadasa Nandasena and others had attacked their election office at Peliyagoda Thursday evening.
