7 Tamilnadu traders arrested in Batticaloa

Batticaloa Police Thursday night took into custody seven residents of Chennai in
Tamilnadu from a lodge in Batticaloa town for conducting business illegally with only a tourist visa. The arrested individuals had been engaged in selling saris and clothes to the people of the town for several years.
The arrested have been identified as Karuppiah
Ramasamy, Maariyappan Krishna, Maariyappan Sinn suppiah, Sinnavel
Suppiah, Ramu Subramaniam, Rajagopal Jeevanantham and Santhappan
Murugan. Deputy Inspector General of Police of Eastern region, Mr. Edison
Gunatillake, had told the arrested Tamilnadu traders at the police
station that they were not allowed to do business while staying in
Batticaloa with tourist visa, but that hey could stay in the town as tourists.
