Northern Region General Manager of UA, T. N. Mathivannan presided at the press meet.

“Action is being taken to pay compensation at the earliest for UA’s clients who had lost their lives in Vanni and UA will extend its services to the people in Vanni when resettlement and rehabilitation activities take place,” Ms. Marina Darmaratne said.

She further announced the following service projects that UA intends to carry out in Jaffna district:

  • Funds to be given to Sri Lanka police for their transport.

  • Funds have been allocated to help develop the education of students in Jaffna district.

  • UA is prepared to give insurance coverage for the transport of goods through A9 route to Jaffna as the route has been officially opened for public use by the government.

Compensation has been paid for the clients who had died in the war but it is difficult to do so in the case where the deaths and disappearances had not been supported by documentary evidence. But action will be taken to pay compensation when there is a possibility, Ms. Marina said.
