FR petition against SSP, others in student abduction incident

Nipuna Ramanayake, the student of Sri Lanka Institute of Information
Technology (SLIIT), who was abducted and assaulted by a group of
policemen, has filed a fundamental rights violation application in the
Supreme Court Thursday, claiming Rs. 100 million as compensation. He
has cited Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Vass Gunawardene, his wife, son and twelve policemen as respondents.
Except the SSP the others are held in
remand on the orders of the Kaduwala Magistrate, legal sources said Nipuna Ramanayake in his petition has begged court to
direct the Attorney General to indict SSP Gunawardena and
other policemen who allegedly tortured and made him to undergo cruel,
degrading and inhuman treatment.
