Jaffna Woman dies during curfew

The night time curfew and severe security restrictions in the Jaffna peninsula have caused the death of a young female teacher, sources there said.

The incident occurred on March 9.

Sumathi Rajaratnam (28) of Kopay south, a teacher at the Jaffna Maruthanamadam Ramanathan College, had suffered from severe chest pain during the night.

Attempts by family members to take her to a hospital during the curfew failed.

They were only able to take her to the hospital in the morning and then it was too late.

She died on admission at the Jaffna Teaching Hospital sources said.

She had been suffering from severe chest pain during the night and her condition deteriorated and eventually she died, hospital sources said.
