Unidentified persons lobbed grenades at the house of Sri Lanka Muslim Congress (SLMC) MP U.L.M (Thoppi) Mohideen in Sammanthurai, 46 kilometers southwest of Batticaloa, this evening around 8.30 p.m. Three civilians who were passing by were wounded.

The MP was, however, in Colombo today said SLMC sources.

They said that the attack could have been carried out by disgruntled elements in the Jihad groups that are active in Sammanthurai.

'Thoppi' Mohideen was formerly a leading member of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) in the Amparai district. The SLFP is the chief constituent of Sri Lanka's ruling party.
