Police assistance sought to distribute fuel in Jaffna peninsula

[TamilNet, Monday, 16 November 2009, 18:24 GMT]
Fuel shortage being acute in Jaffna peninsula in the past few days police assistance is being used to distribute fuel to customers throughout Jaffna peninsula, sources in Jaffna said. Thousands of vehicle owners were seen Monday waiting in long queues to get the limited ration of fuel. The failure to bring in and stock sufficient quantity of volume through A9 road, as it had been done earlier when fuel was shipped to Jaffna, is said to be the reason for the current acute shortage of fuel in Jaffna peninsula, civil society representatives said.

Public services including transport, fishing and farming activities have been crippled due to the acute shortage of fuel in Jaffna peninsula.

Petrol, diesel and other fuel are being rationed in small and limited quantity and that to under the supervision and control of police personnel.

When fuel was brought to Jaffna in ships sufficient quantity had been brought and stocked well in advance.
