Improve lives of resettled people in Moothoor, demands IDP Union

The president of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) Union requested government authorities to take several actions which could greatly help the resettled people to improve their lives, in a meeting held Wednesday around 10:00 a.m in Kaddaippa’richchaan Vipulaanantha Mahaa Viththiyaalayam. Eastern Province Chief Minister, Sivanesathurai Chandrakanthan, Governor Mohan Vijayavickrama, Government Agent T. T. R. de Silva, Cooperative Development Minister, A. Majeed, Eastern Province Agriculture Minister T. Navaratnarajah, Divisional Secretary N. Selvanayagam and government officials participated in the meeting, sources in Trincomallee said.
The requests extended by president K. Nakeswaran included the opening of ‘Chinappaalam’ to help the resettled fishermen and the construction of proper drainage facilities in Kaddaippa’richchaan. The Tamil fishermen who depend on fishing for their living should also be permitted to fish in Vaddam sea area along with the Muslim fishermen who are allowed to fish there, Nakeswaran requested in the meeting. Champoor area is now known as Development Zone instead of High Security Zone where the thermal electricity plant is to be installed. This area can accommodate two schools and 600 families and these people will not be a threat to security in this area. People from this area should be allowed to resettle in Champoor, Nakeswaran said. In conclusion Nakeswaran pointed out that Champpor Pathira Kaa’li Amman Koayil is a historically famous Saiva temple and action shoul be taken to create an atmosphere so that people could go and worship in the temple without any hindrance, he further requested.
