TMVP cadre arrested with 4 T-56 rifles in Batticaloa

Kalkudaa Police Thursday arrested a cadre of TMVP led by Pillayan,
Chief Minister of the Eastern Provincial Council (EPC), with four T-56
rifles and nine magazines in Maangkearni in Vaakarai division in
Batticaloa district. The suspect has been identified as Sinnathamby
Vettivel, 26.
The weapons were found buried in the home garden of the TMVP member. Kalkudaa Police are conducting the investigations to ascertain the
reasons for the weapons found buried and the suspect is being
interrogated, under detention, Colombo police spokesman said. Originally a member of the LTTE, the suspect had left the organization
with Karuna Amman who was the Commander of Armed Division in the East. The suspect subsequently left Karuna to join Pillaiyan’s TMVP. Karuna
and Pillayan are now supporting the government led by President
Mahinda Rajapakse.
