Buddhist monks of National Bhikku Front Monday held a Satyagraha campaign in front of the Bo Tree located in Fort in Colombo demanding the immediate release of Venerable Dambara Amila Thera who is now in remand after the arrest by CID on Sunday.

Venerable Amila Thera led National Patriotic Centre (PTC) has been supporting the common opposition candidate General (retd) Sarath Fonseka.

PTC is a front organization of the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) that has also extended its support to General Fonseka.

JVP has described the arrest and remand of Venerable Amila Thera as an act of harassment of political activists who support Fonseka’s candidature.
