Santhanam Arulsamy appointed Member of Parliament

Santhanam Arulsamy has been appointed a Member of Parliament to fill the vacancy created with the death of Periyasamy Chandrasekaran, according to an Extra-Ordinary Gazette Notification issued by the Commissioner of Elections Dayananda Dissanayake Friday midnight.
Mr.Chandrasekaran was elected in the last general election from the Nuwara Eliya electoral district on the ticket of Upcountry Peoples Front (UPF).
Mr.Arlusamy polled more votes next to Mr.Chandrasekaran. With the demise of Mr.Chandrasekaran, the Commissioner of Elections has appointed Mr.Arlusamy to fill the vacancy. Mr.Arlusamy earlier held the post of Administrative Secretary in the UPF and a member of the Central Provincial Council. He later resigned from the UPF and formed a separate trade union called Workers Liberation Front. He was later appointed Provincial Minister of Education in the Central Provincial Council.He is one of the advisors to the President Mahinda Rajapakse. Mr.Arlusamy is expected to take oaths before the Speaker when the parliament meets on February 8th.
