NCET announces committees to spearhead democratic moves of Eezham Tamils

The Norwegian Council of Eelam Tamils (NCET) on the Tamil festival day of Pongkal, Thursday, announced initiation of three global committees: a Monitoring Committee to help and coordinate polls mandating Tamil Eelam as well as constitutions cum elections for people’s councils in various countries; an Exploration Committee to examine the possibilities of founding a diplomatic centre in Oslo to represent the people’s councils and a Representative Committee to discuss apex coordination or united functioning with other constructs that emerge with national thinking. The NCET statement named Mr. S Pradeep and Ms Krishanthi Sakthithasan of France as international coordinator and spokesperson respectively for the said initiatives.

Representatives of moves undertaking mandate on Tamil Eelam and elections for people’s councils in various countries met in Germany last month and have taken these decisions said the statement signed by Dr. Panchakulasingam Kandiah, Chairperson of NCET.

“Eezham Tamils have clearly and overwhelmingly mandated their aspiration for independent and sovereign Tamil Eelam in Norway, last May. Significantly they did it in the very country that was the venue for efforts that tried to lock them within ‘internal self-determination.’

“The popular mandate for independence and sovereignty followed suit in France and in Canada and polls are now scheduled this month in Switzerland, Holland, Denmark and in UK.

“The first People’s Council (NCET), based on the principles of the mandate, was formed through democratic elections in Norway last November. Elections are now scheduled for the people’s council in Canada in March. France and Denmark have already formed committees to conduct elections for people’s councils,” the NCET statement further said.
