Freedom of movement of Fonseka restricted: Sri Lankan opposition

The main opposition parties United National Party (UNP), Janatha
Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) and Sri Lanka Muslim Congress (SLMC) Wednesday
evening at a hurriedly convened press briefing announced that they
have decided to request the Government of Sri Lanka to ensure freedom
of movement and adequate security to the common opposition candidate
General Sarath Fonseka.
SLMC leader Rauf Hakim told a news briefing Wednesday afternoon said
the freedom of movement of General Fonseka currently hauled up in a
hotel has been restricted. General Fonseka is scheduled to attend an event at Elections
Secretariat this evening where the final result of the presidential
election is to be officially announced by the Commissioner of
Elections Dayananda Dissanayake. Mr. Hakim further stated that the joint opposition is to issue a
statement in regard to the conduct of the presidential election later. Ranil Wickremesinghe and JVP leader Vijitha Heart also
attended the press briefing.
