Swiss journalist visa reinstated

Karin Wenger of Swiss Public Radio has been allowed to stay by Sri Lanka's President Mahinda Rajapakse, Colombo media sources said quoting the Government Information Department. Wenger was one of more than one hundred foreign journalist in Sri Lanka to cover the Presidential elections.

The journalist of the Swiss radio station was earlier ordered to leave by Monday, the government information department said. Media sources earlier said she was asked to leave the island by Monday February 1 for allegedly probing on the manipulation of votes during the elections at a press briefing. Wenger, 30, joined the German-language service of Swiss public radio in 2009 with extensive experience reporting from the Middle East.
