Explosion kills 2 children, injures 5 more in Jaffna

An explosive device went off killing two boys on the spot and seriously injuring five more, including four girls and the brother of one of the victims killed, Monday around 2:45 p.m in Kozhumpuththu’rai when the students were on their way home from Kozhumpuththu’rai Inthu Mahaa Viththiyaalayam, sources in Jaffna said. The condition of all the five seriously injured admitted to Jaffna Teaching Hospital is critical, hospital sources said. The device had exploded when the boys tried to examine it on finding it along the road.
The victims killed in the blast are A. Laxman, 9 and D. Ramsing, 10, both residents of Ariyaalai. N. Sivanjili, N. Rajini, 16 and N. Thedsha, 17, of 100 houses scheme in Naavatkuzhi of the same family are three of the five seriously injured. The fourth girl injured is Kalaivani, 19, originally from Chuzhipuram now residing in Kozhumpuththu’rai. The fifth injured is D. Rahulan, 9, the brother of D. Ramsing, one of the victims killed in the explosion. Sri Lanka Army had recently allowed resettlement in some areas in Kozhumpuththu’rai.
