The Maha Sangha Convention called by the Mahanayakas of four chapters
that is scheduled to be held on Thursday (February 18) to discuss the
current volatile political situation in the country has been postponed
indefinitely citing security reasons, Dalada Maligawa sources said.
Mahanayakas of Malwatte Chapter Ven. Tibbotuwawe Sri Siddhartha
Sumangala Thera and Asgiriya Chapter Ven. Udugama Sri Rathanapala
Buddharakkitha Thera said in a statement Tuesday that they withheld
their decision to hold the Sangha Convention considering the security
aspect of Buddhist monks and devotees who are supposed to assemble in
large numbers at Mahamaluwa of Sri Dalada Maligawa, under the present
circumstances of the country. However, Mahanayakas of Amarapura Chapter Ven. Dawuldena Gnanissara
Thera and Ramanna Chapter Ven. Weweldeniye Medhalankara Thera did not
sign the statement.
