Body found in Vavuniya

Local residents found a decomposed body yesterday near the Earatpaeriaykulam reservoir, about 4 k.m. south of Vavuniya, said police sources. The police removed the body from the scene this morning and made arrangements for it be identified.

Sources in Vavuniya said that the body may belong to someone who has disappeared mysteriously.

However Police said that they were unable to comment on this until their investigations have been completed.

Meanwhile Vavuniya hospital sources said that 3 civilians identified as Sritharan (31), Sureshkumar (35) and Veerasamy (35) were brought in with serious assault injuries this morning.

Sources added that one of the three, Sureshkumar, had a serious wound on his head and was transferred to the Anuradhapura hospital for further treatment.

Police sources said that this was probably the result of a gang fight between two factions in a village and that inquiries are in progress.
