SLA claims to have removed 290,445 mines in North, East

Sri Lanka Army (SLA) claimed that 290,445 mines have been removed in the North and East and adjacent areas. Of them 59379 mines were removed from Mannaar district, 30905 mines from Vavuniyaa district, 57710 mines from Kilinochchi district and 16749 mines in Mullaiththeevu district, according to Military media spokesman Brigadier Ubaya Medewela.

He added that 10408 mines were removed from Jaffna district, 16, 320 mines in Batticaloa district, 4983 in Trincomalee district, 1873 from Anuradhapura district and 957 from Polonnaruwa district.

The total extent of land freed of mines is 1732 square km.

1203 SLA soldiers and 28 officers were deployed in the de-mining project, he further said.
