[TamilNet, Sunday, 18 July 2010, 16:10 GMT]
Sri Lanka Army (SLA) soldiers intimidate the resettled civilians in Paduvaankarai area in Batticaloa district and take away their home produce without paying money, according to complaints made by the affected civilians to Sri Lanka government authorities. Despite complaints to government officials the SLA soldiers continue to rob the poor civilians of what they had managed to produce as no action has been taken on them, sources in Batticaloa said.

Vegetables, coconuts, fruits and chicken of the resettled civilians in the villages of Naavatkaadu, Ka'ruvaamunai, Mahizhavaddavaan, Eachchantheevu, Aayiththiyamalai, Moon'raam Kaddai in Vavu’natheevu police division are taken away by SLA soldiers who refuse to pay for what they take, the resettled civilians said.

Sri Lanka government has failed even to provide basic facilities or any means of living to the above resettled civilians and whatever that they manage to get from hunting, fishing and home garden are being forcibly taken away by the SLA soldiers.

Before resettlement in this area the occupying SLA officials and soldiers had killed their cattle for food and had taken their paddy and household goods to their own houses, the affected civilians said.
