Intestines of nurse killed in Veala’nai exhumed, sent to Colombo JMO

[TamilNet, Friday, 30 July 2010, 14:57 GMT]
The intestines of the family consultant nurse Saravanai Tharsika alleged killed by Sinhala doctor Priyantha Senivaratne in Veala’nai hospital, removed after post mortem examination in Jaffna Teaching Hospital and buried in Koddadi cemetery before her body was handed over to her family, were exhumed Friday in the presence of Oorkaavattu’rai magistrate and Jaffna Judicial Medical Officer (JMO) and sent to Colombo JMO on request, sources in Jaffna said.

Tharsika was killed 10 July in Veala’nai government hospital in the islets of Jaffna and her body buried in Kaithadi crematorium grounds was exhumed 28 July and sent for medical examination to Colombo JMO.

Tharsika’s mother had filed a petition in Oorkaavattu’rai magistrate court 19 July requesting fresh medical examination of her daughter’s body as she suspected Tharsika was sexually abused before being killed.

Colombo JMO had requested the intestines of Tharsiaka’s body which had been removed in Jaffna Teaching Hospital during post mortem examination to be sent to Colombo. They had been removed before the body was given to Tharsika’s family to avoid decomposing.

The intestines had been buried in Koddadi cemetery which is under the supervision and control of Jaffna Teaching Hospital.
