Former EPRLF Chief Minister visits Vavuniya

Mr. Varatharajaperumal, former Chief Minister of the Northeast Provincial Council visited Vavuniya today and had discussions with the Senior Superintendent of Police and Government Agent (GA) regarding the situation there, sources said.

According to sources, Mr.Perumal had discussions about the residential pass system in Vavuniya with the Senior Superintendent of Police.

He also met K.Ganesh, the Government Agent of Vavuniya, and discussed the general situation in the Vanni. He was keen to find out about the situation in the Iranai Illuppaikulam and Madhu areas, that were recently captured by the Sri Lanka Army, sources added.

Former parliamentarian and a key EPRLF member in Vavuniya, Mr.Emmanuel Silva Sivam accompanied Mr.Perumal during the discussions.

EPRLF officials in Vavuniya, however, declined to give any details of his visit immediately.

Meanwhile the Sri Lankan Army said that a local LTTE leader was killed this morning in the village of Gopalapuram, about 7km north of Trincomalee town on the Nilaveli-Kuchaveli road.

The SLA said that the LTTE member known as Sathis was apprehended after government troops conducted a cordon and search operation in Gopalapuram following a tip off.
