Internal fight among Nuraichchoalai Chinese workers leaves one injured

One Chinese worker sustained serious injuries following a clash between groups of Chinese workers deployed by Chinese sub contractors in constructing the Nuraichchoalai Thermal Power Plant in Kalpiddi, sources in Trincomalee said. Five Chinese sub-contractors have undertaken the construction of the thermal power plant and have employed their own staff of Chinese workers.

One Chinese sub-contractor had failed to pay his workers salary for eleven months. When these workers Saturday started a protest in the vicinity, other Chinese workers had attacked them and this led to a free for all between groups of Chinese workers, according to sources close to the event.

Police rushed to site to bring the situation under control.

Seriously injured Chinese worker was admitted to the Puththa'lam general hospital for emergency treatment, police sources said.
