All Ceylon Government Public Servants Association (ACGPSA) has
requested the President Mahinda Rajapakse to stop appointing Sinhalese
from other parts of the country to fill vacancies in Divisional
Secretariats and other government departments in the districts of
Batticaloa and Ampaa'rai with immediate effect. ACGPSA President
S.Loganathan said that he has sent a memorandum to Rajapakse to this
effect.
He said his trade union had pointed out to the authorities concerned earlier that several vacancies exist in government departments that come under the centre in the two districts without being filled. But the civil authorities are now filling these vacancies by appointing outsiders who are members of the majority community from the
Sabragamuwa province without giving due place to unemployed in the two districts. “We are shocked to find that seventeen Sinhalese from the south have been appointed to government departments in the two districts in the eastern province. We have requested the President to transfer these
newly appointed persons to their own provinces,” said Mr.Loganathan. ACGPSA has also brought to the notice of Mahinda Rajapakse that several employees from the two districts who have been working in government departments for several years on daily basis and not made permanent even after they faced interviews.
