Military officials said today that eleven civilians were killed and 6 injured last night, around 8.30 p.m, in an attack by the LTTE at Kiri Ibanwewa a remote settlement in Weli Oya area.
The civilians were returning home after watching a musical show organised by the security forces and the villagers to mark the Wesak Festival, they said. One seriously wounded had been admitted to Anuradhapura hospital and the rest to Welioya and Padaviya hospitals, they added. LTTE officials in Europe said they had no information about the incident. The LTTE does not deliberately target civilians, they said. Weli Oya is a village cum military camp in the large Sinhala settlement established by the SLA on the southern extreme of the Mullaithivu district in the northeast of the island.
