ITAK local councilors in North, East to take oath in Trincomalee

76 councilors elected to fifteen local bodies including two Urban Councils and ten Predesiya Sabas in the last local elections held in Northern and Eastern provinces on the Ilankai Tamil Arasu Katchchi (ITAK) ticket, and Chairmen and Vice Chairmen appointed to twelve local bodies captured by the ITAK would be taking oaths on March 31 Thursday morning at Trincomalee Town Hall, political sources in the East said.

Prior to the commencement of this event all Tamil National Alliance parliamentarians and leaders of constituent parties accompanied by newly elected local councilors would pay tribute to late ITAK leader and popularly known as as “Thanthai” S.J.V.Chelvanayakam whose birthday also falls on the same day-Thursday.

Meanwhile, ITAK parliamentary group has decided to appoint councilors who polled highest preferential votes for the post of Chairman and Vice Chairman in twelve local bodies that were captured by the ITAK in the elections on March 17.

ITAK contested fifteen local bodies but captured twelve including two urban councils (Trincomalee and Mannaar) and ten PS of Verugal in Trincomalee district, Naavithanvelli and Aalaiyadivembu in Ampaarai district, Vavuniyaa South , Vavuniyaa North and Venkalacheddikulam in Vavuniyaa district, Mannaar, Naanaaddaan, Maanthai east in Mannaar district and Maanthai West in Mullaithivu district.

ITAK were able to obtain some seats in other local bodies.
