Unidentified men from South last Sunday abducted a 13-year-old Tamil boy, K. Diluxon, from Uruththirapuram in Ki'linochchi. The boy managed to escape from his abductors while they parked their vehicle in Vavuniyaa. Meanwhile, a 17-year-old girl, Sangarapillai Maithrayi, from Vallaarai in Thenmaraadchi in Jaffna district was reported missing since Monday, according to complaints registered at Human Rights Commission in Jaffna.
Human Rights activists in Jaffna said there have been several cases of abduction of under-age children in Vanni and expressed fear that elements from South were engaged in abducting children from the North through A9 Highway which is guarded by the occupying Sri Lankan military. On January 01, 2011, a 20-year-old student was abducted by armed men in green uniform together with around 30 school children. The abductees were reportedly released after the student, Gajeevan Puvanendran, alerted his parents through SMS while the abductors were taking them across Vavuniyaa through A9 highway.
