Sri Lanka plans criminal show of ‘reconciliation’ in Colombo, Jaffna on May 1

[TamilNet, Friday, 29 April 2011, 20:51 GMT]
In a cruel show of ‘reconciliation,’ Sri Lanka’s occupying military in full swing has gone to the houses of released LTTE cadres, family members of the captives and ‘resettled’ Eezham Tamils living in open prisons in north and east and intimidated them to participate in Mahinda Rajapaksa’s demonstration show in Colombo on 1 May, to oppose any international justice coming to the crimes committed against them. A fleet of buses are organized to herd the people from Vanni and Jaffna to Colombo, after warning them of dire consequences if they don’t come. Meanwhile, a group of thugs has been brought from the south for violent demonstrations in the locality of UN offices in Jaffna city on May 1.

In the first stage, a group of Tamil youth and their family members will be taken from Ki’linochchi to Colombo by the SLA in a fleet of 20 buses on Saturday.

The released Tamil youth are severely intimidated that they will be arrested again if they don’t come.

The family members of the captives were told that if they don’t come, their relatives in captivity will never be released and will be killed.

In Ki’linochchi, the SLA went house by house and said that there would be dire consequences if the 20 buses were not filled with enough people on Saturday. The SLA itself will be herding the people in the buses.

The SLA has told them that signatures also would be obtained from them in Colombo that they oppose any international investigation.

Meanwhile, Sri Lanka’s minister Mr. Douglas Devananda has made arrangements to herd Tamil officials appointed by him and depending on him in Jaffna in 15 buses to Colombo. Other operatives of Colombo in Jaffna, Mr. Ankajan and Mr Thangarajah have also made arrangements to herd people to Colombo from Jaffna in buses.

A surprise demonstration is planned in Jaffna on May 1 and for this purpose groups of Sinhala thugs have been brought to Jaffna and they are now staying in several hideouts.

The demonstration is planned in the locality of Temple Road in Jaffna city where the UN offices, NGO offices and the residences of those who work in them are located. In recent times, Colombo was insisting that all institutions of foreign connections should be located as an enclave in that locality so that it would be easier for it to monitor them.

In the schemed ‘demonstration’ on Sunday, those who were brought from the south might enact violent incidents, and the blame would be put on local Tamils, informed sources in Jaffna said.

The UN workers in Jaffna are in much anxiety. The UN offices in the island have been instructed not to run its vehicles and not to admit any outsiders into its offices on Saturday and Sunday. The UN workers have been told not to go out unnecessarily on those days.

The UN report calling for international investigation of war crimes jeopardizes domestic ‘reconciliation’ is what Sri Lanka’s argument. This is tacitly supported by some international elements too that abetted the crimes.

Familiarising Eezham Tamils to the life of subjugation is what meant by ‘reconciliation’ by those who conceived the paradigm, said a social worker in Jaffna.
