TN govt was voted for getting justice to Eezham Tamils: CPI member

[TamilNet, Tuesday, 07 June 2011, 23:07 GMT]
Participating the debate on Governor’s Speech in Tamil Nadu State Assembly on Tuesday, the Communist Party of India (CPI) Deputy Leader in the Assembly and Sivagangai MLA, Mr. K. Gunasekaran, pointed out that the new government was voted by the people of Tamil Nadu to bring those who committed genocide on Eezham Tamils across the Palk Strait to justice. Declaring that the CPI considers what happened in the island is genocide and not merely war crime, Gunasekaran said that the TN Assembly should unanimously pass a resolution to penalise Mahinda Rajapaksa for the genocide. He also requested the TN Chief Minister Ms. Jayalalitha to lead the struggle for the right of Eezham Tamils over their country and said that the 100 million Tamils all over the world expect this from her.

During the Vanni War, 1,46, 679 people have gone unaccounted, according to the UN panel report citing official documents. Evidences show that they were probably killed. Around 40,000 people were killed on the last days of the war in May 2009 alone. Prohibited weapons were used against them. Those who surrendered holding white flags were killed. The world has not witnessed such a pogrom since World War II. This is a fascist savagery of the 21st century to exterminate the Tamil nation in the island, Gunasekaran said.

The chauvinism of the Sri Lankan state exceeds the limits of the island to the extent of crossing the sea border and killing, torturing and humiliating the fishermen of Tamil Nadu too. Even after the war such killing and atrocities continue, proving the genocidal and monstrous orientation of the Sri Lankan state, the MLA of the CPI pointed out.

When the Eezham Tamils were killed in the island and the fishermen of Tamil Nadu were killed near their own shores, the Central and State governments didn’t take any action in the past, Gunasekaran accused, demanding that the ruling Congress Party of India should now take the full responsibility to indict Rajapaksa for war crimes and genocide.

During the parliamentary elections in 2009, the present chief minister Ms. Jayalalitha, who is always full of positive emotions towards Eezham Tamils, said that in the event of her party’s success, she would save the Tamils even by seeing the Indian Army sent to the island. She should now lead the struggle, Gunasekaran requested.
