CPI(M) ‘keen’ in solutions within ‘united Sri Lanka’

While Eezham Tamils experiencing genocide have long resolved on their right to self-determination and independence, the Tamil Nadu State Committee of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) on Saturday has announced that it will stage an agitation in New Delhi on Wednesday ‘demanding’ the Indian government to find a political solution based on equal rights and regional autonomy within ‘united Sri Lanka.’ The party has also called for immediate measures of rehabilitation and a ‘high level’ (not international) investigation on war crimes. While grassroot public opinion in Tamil Nadu is mounting on leaving the political future of Eezham Tamils to be decided by the right to self-determination of Eezham Tamils, the imperialist outlook behind the CPI(M) agenda tries to deviate it, Tamil Nadu political circles said.
As about a thousand CPI(M) members are travelling to New Delhi on Sunday from the Central Railway Station of Chennai for the planned demonstration, the Tamil Nadu secretary of the party, Mr G. Ramakrishnan in a statement Saturday has requested coverage from the local media. With the kind of the power-backed militarisation of an exclusive Sinhala military and long-term structural genocidal measures planned in the island, regional autonomy is meaningless and will not work, Eezham Tamil politicians point out. The CPI(M) brand of rehabilitation not based on the right to self-determination of the nation of Eezham Tamils reminds of the kind of ‘rehabilitation’ India is offering to its tribes and peoples uprooted by its corporate land grab, the politicians further said. “India’s politicians show a sense of urgency only when forced to do so by a crisis – and often not even then,” writes Rahul Jacob reviewing some recent publications on India in The Financial Times, Saturday.
