More arrests in Jaffna

The Sri Lanka Army (SLA) soldiers and the Liberation Tigers clashed in Kokkuvil, north of Jaffna town last night said sources in the northern town.
The SLA soldiers handed over the bodies of two youths who were killed during the confrontation to the Jaffna teaching hospital this afternoon around 3.30 p.m. The army cordoned off the area this morning and conducted a search operation. Human Rights Commission (HRC) sources said that the following four youths from the Arasadi Pillaiyar temple area have been arrested during the search operation: Visvalingam Ravishankar, A.Krishnakumar, Mahathevan Thanaraj, S.A.Roopan. Elsewhere in Jaffna, Rudramoorthy Perinpamoorthy,19, of Aaladi, Moolai, was arrested by the SLA soldiers at Kaladdy junction today, while Somasooriyar Pakiyarasa, of 'Kaali' Temple in Valvettiththurai, was arrested on June 18. Meanwhile the police have informed that 7 refugees who were arrested by the SLA soldiers when they went to collect firewood in Aanaisuddakadukulam jungles last Friday are being detained at the Anuradhapura prison, their relatives said.
