China card misleads Indian public

[TamilNet, Wednesday, 21 March 2012, 06:38 GMT]
“The question that needs to be answered now is should the UPA government [in New Delhi] be more worried about alliance politics or China’s growing dominance in South Asia,” asks a news feature appeared in The Times of India on Tuesday. By taking a stand to vote against Sri Lanka at Geneva, the UPA government for the moment seems to have calmed the political furore. But bypassing one crisis India seems to find itself in a potentially bigger threat of leaving Sri Lanka in the hands of China, the feature said. If the thrust of the Times of India feature is to discourage India from acting on Sri Lanka by showing the China card, the media is misleading the Indian public, said an Eezham Tamil politician in the island.

Further comments from the Tamil politician in the island:

It was the phobia in a section of the elite of Tamil Nadu and Kerala that was always misleading New Delhi and the Indian public from acting righteously on the question of Eezham Tamils, and whenever needed this section used to show the China card to find ‘patriotic’ or diplomatic legitimacy.

A particular diplomatic clan was misleading India on the China factor right from the Indo-China war of 1962, and now the same clan has paved way for another Tibet in the country of Eezham Tamils.

If China had been the real concern of India, it shouldn’t have worked for the elimination of the LTTE. Rather, it should have at least allowed the military balance of Eezham Tamils to exist.

Now, as the military balance of Eezham Tamils has been eliminated, what India should seriously think of is mobilising international endorsement for bringing in political and diplomatic balance to the nation of Eezham Tamils. Without the balance in the island India can never treat the insatiable paranoia of the Sinhala nation.

The continued display of the China card by New Delhi and sections in the Indian media for inaction on the cause of Eezham Tamils will not only forfeit the entire island to China, but will open up a volcano in Tamil Nadu and Tamil minds within India.

The question is not as shallow as the Times of India feature misleads the public, as something confined to the alliance politics of the UPA government in New Delhi.
