Explosions take place frequently in resettled villages in Paduvaankarai region of Batticaloa district, declared by the occupying Sri Lanka Army as free of land-mines, civil sources in Batticaloa say. The latest victim is an under-age youth engaged in cattle grazing work. Explosions of unexploded ordnance in the region have seriously threatened the security and livelihood of poverty-stricken people who are subjected to structural genocide by the occupying Sri Lankan forces and its military-run civil administration.
15-year-old Arasaratnam Inbarajah was seriously injured in an explosion that took place at Yaanai-kaddiya-ve'li in Vellaave'li division of Batticaloa district while he was attempting to dig a pit. Inbarajah, who suffered serious injuries to one of his hands, was immediately rushed to Ka'luvaagnchik-kudi Base Hospital. Later he was transferred to Batticaloa Teaching Hospital for further treatment, medical sources said. People uprooted from Vellaave'li were allowed to resettle after being given clearance that the area is free of land mines by the occupying Sri Lanka Army.
