[TamilNet, Monday, 29 October 2012, 13:46 GMT]
Normalcy has been completely disturbed in North-East following heavy rains with strong winds since Sunday. 187 mm rain fall was recorded in Trincomalee and 41.2 mm in Jaffna and Batticaloa for the last twenty four hours at 8:30 a.m. Monday, according to SL Department of Meteorology. The depression in the Bay of Bengal was centered about 250 km east of Mullaithivu coast at 02.00 a.m. on Monday. It is likely to move in westward direction and deepen in to a deep depression.

Fishermen residing in coastal villages in the north and east have temporarily shifted to safe places due to rough seas. They have not gone for fishing due to stormy weather.

Several houses in Thampalakaamam, Paalampoaddaa'ru, Mullaiyadi, Sivapuram, Meeraanakar, Siraj Nakar, Mu'l'lipoththana and Paththinipuram are under flood leaving large number of families seeking refuge elsewhere.

Thu'lasipuram, Varoathaiya Nakar in Trincomalee town and Pulmoaddai in Kuchchave'li DS division and Naduththeevu and Chamaththeevu in Kinniya DS division have also been badly affected due to torrential rain.

Two of the 10 fishing boats that went for fishing Sunday have failed to return shore in Batticaloa.

Fishing community has been requested to be vigilant about the strong winds, showery weather and rough seas in the sea areas off the coast from Mannaar to Batticaloa via Jaffna and Trincomalee.

Most parts of the island will experience rainy conditions. Strong winds and very heavy rain falls (more than 150 mm) will also occur in the Eastern, Northern, North-Central and North -Western provinces, the SL Department of Meteorology said.
