Two held by SLA intelligence

Krishnapillai Pavalakesan, 26, an employee of a local NGO and Thambinayakam Sribalu, 27, a journalist were detained by the Sri Lanka Army's (SLA) Intelligence Unit in Batticaloa yesterday evening.
The Sri Lanka Army (SLA) personnel at a sentry point arrested Pavalakesan while he was passing by the camp of the SLA's intelligence unit on Pioneer road. Pavalakesan who is from Santhiveli is employed at a local non-governmental organisation. He has been detained on suspicion said SLA sources, without elaborating. On hearing the arrest of Pavalakesan, Sribalu and another journalist had gone to the camp to inquire. The SLA had allowed the journalist to leave but had detained Sribalu for further inquiries sources said. The ICRC and Human Rights Commission have been informed about the arrests.
