Social Service Officer shot and killed in Batticaloa

Two unknown gunmen, who came in a motorbike, entered the residence of a Social Service Officer at Ma'ndoor in Poaratheevu DS division and shot and killed the 43-year-old SSO after talking to him for a while Tuesday morning around 8:30, news sources in Batticaloa said. The victim, identified as Sachchithanantham Mathisayan was taken to Ka'luvaagnchikkudi hospital with gunshot injuries to his head. The SSO later succumbed to his wounds, the sources further said.

Mr Mathisayn was employed as SSO at Naavithan-ve'li DS office in Ampaa'rai district.

He was also engaged in social activities in his native village, Ma'ndoor, which is known for its popular Murukan temple.

Ma'ndoor is situated 40 km south of Batticaloa city.
