Tiger ambush kills 6 STF commandos

Six commandos of the Special Task Force (STF) were killed in an attack by the Liberation Tigers near the Bar Junction in Central Camp this morning around 7.30 a.m. Five STF commandos were wounded in the attack sources in Ampara said.

The commandos were from STF camp at the 13th colony, a Tamil farming village.

Police sources in Ampara said that about forty Tigers had taken part in the ambush.

Central Camp is a mixed settlement in the Gal Oya irrigation scheme near the border of the Batticaloa district.

Meanwhile a transformer was destroyed in an explosion at Mallikai Bazaar in Hatton, a town in the Central Province in the Nuwara Eliya District, around 10.30 a.m. this morning, said sources.
