Colombo schemes 4 Buddhist temples in Kuchchave'li division of Trincomalee

[TamilNet, Monday, 16 May 2016, 20:13 GMT]
Genocidal State of Sri Lanka, regardless of regimes coming to power in Colombo, has been intensely spearheading a Sinhala colonisation programme to wedge the North and East at several strategic locations in the north of Trincomalee district and in the south of Mullaiththeevu district in North. Recently, the SL Ministry of Buddha Sasana in Colombo has approved funds to construct four new Buddhist temples (pansala) and viharas in predominantly Tamil-speaking Thennai-maravadi and Pulmoaddai areas that come under the Kuchchave'li division, Tamil civil sources in Trinocmalee told TamilNet on Monday. In the meantime, several pansalas are to be constructed in the bordering largely Sinhala division of Morawewa, where two Tamil villages, Panku'lam and Nochchik-ku'lam, are being subjected to Sinhalicisation, the sources further said.

The SL Archaeology Department was working intensively with the occupying Sinhala military and police in Pulmoaddai and Thennai-maravadi during the regime of Mahinda Rajapaksa. The ‘Army and Archaeology’ nexus between the forces of militarisation, Sinhalicisation and Buddhicisation, prevails in the same manner during the Maithiripala regime.

Pansalas are to be constructed, primarily for installing Sinhala Buddhist monks, at recently seized agricultural lands. Viharas are to be constructed along the hillocks, the sources said.

Later, the same project was also expanded covering several hundred acres of paddy lands of Muslims at Arisi-malai and Naaka-malai in Pulmoaddai.

Muslim leaders, including the provincial councillors, elected civic members of Piratheasa Chapai (PS) and the Ulama Council, were opposing the move.

At the same time, the occupying Sinhala military had seized several acres of lands in Pulmoaddai, openly claiming that the lands were being taken over for the families of ‘Sri Lankan’ soldiers under the so-called ‘Ranaviru Gammanaya’ project.

A Buddhist temple is being planned Arisi-malaik-kudaa, located 55 km north of Trincomalee city. Another one is to be constructed at Bo-tree junction (arasamarach-chanthi).

At Chuvaami-malai, located closer to Karai-thu'raip-pattu division of Mullaiththeevu-district, a large Buddhist vihara is being schemed. This vihara is going to be located very close to the Murukan temple at Chuvaami-malai.

The exact location of the fourth Buddhist temple is not known.

In the meantime, 23 pansalas are to be newly established in Morawewa division, where Tamils uprooted from their traditional villages of Panku'lam and Nochchik-ku'lam are struggling to resettle. Those who returned from Tamil Nadu in India are yet to be resettled. But, their villages are being Sinhalicised through Sinhala ‘Army and Archaeology’.
