Fact finding mission to Vavuniya

N.A Obadage the Chairman of Rehabilitation and Reconstruction Authority for North (RRAN) and the Commissioner General of Essential Services and Ms. Miru Poulos, the Political Officer and the 3rd Secretary to the High Commission for Australia in Sri Lanka, visited Vavuniya today, said sources.

Ms Miru Poulos was on a fact finding mission to the area, the sources added.

They visited Kokkuveli about 5 km. north of Vavuniya along Vavuniya - Jaffna (A9) trunk road to inspect the civilians being checked by the Police before they were permitted to proceed to the Vanni area held by the LTTE, government officials said.

They also visited the welfare centres at Poonthoddam along with Mrs.V.Ketheeswaran the Project Director of Rehabilitation and Reconstruction in Vavuniya officials added.

Meanwhile over three hundred civilians who were stranded in Vavuniya were allowed to travel through Mankulam, to LTTE held Vanni region today, said Kachcheri sources.

Another 400 people are expected to travel tomorrow the sources added.
