Two killed in security zone

Two Policemen were killed in a grenade attack last night around 8 p.m. in the heart of Jaffna town. The policemen were walking by the Kottady fish market in the high security zone when unidentified persons had lobbed grenade at them.
The blast had killed the two men on the spot. Their bodies were taken to the Jaffna hospital later in the night. Informed sources in Jaffna said that the policemen had befriended some women in the Kottady and were in the habit of paying them nocturnal visits. Meanwhile two cadres of the Tamil paramilitary People's Liberation Organisation of Tamil Eelam (PLOTE) operating with the Sri Lanka Army in Vavuniya were shot dead at by unidentified youths at Maharambaikulam, 5 km. east of Vavuniya town, around 11.30 a.m. today. One of them Krishnasamy Vettiventan alias Ventan was killed on the spot. The other PLOTE cadre, Thirunavukkarasu Maniyarasan, was seriously wounded in the fire. He was rushed to Vavuniya hospital and then to Anuradhapura.
