SLA, Tigers to observe days of tranquillity

The UNICEF in Colombo said today that the Sri Lanka Army and the Liberation Tigers have agreed to observe "days of tranquillity" on September 10-11 and October 15-16 to facilitate the national immunization program.
The UNICEF said that an assurance has been given to the UNICEF in response to a request from UNICEF representative in Sri Lanka who sought the assistance of the government forces and the Liberation Tigers to facilitate the immunization program by observing days of tranquillity. Meanwhile a member of the UNDP sponsored de-mining team was injured when a mine went off near the Jaffna Technical College this morning around 10.30 a.m. S. Shockko of Zimbabwe was injured on his face and legs. He has been admitted at the Jafna Teaching hospital, sources said.
