Uprooted Tamils confront SL Minister on 452th day of protest

[TamilNet, Sunday, 27 May 2018, 18:32 GMT]
Uprooted people of Keappaa-pulavu in Mullaiththeevu district laid siege to the Divisional Secretariat office of Karai-thu'raip-pattu on Saturday when SL Minister of Resettlement D. M. Swaminathan visited Mullaiththeevu for a meeting on livelihood assistance projects. The protesters confronted the SL Minister when he emerged out of the meeting. Mr Swaminathan managed to force himself through the protesters with the help of his ministerial security and the SL police and left the office after a brief stand-off.

The protesters, however, managed to curb the TNA parliamentarians and NPC councillors and posed a question on how many more days they want to see the protesters languishing in the streets.

TNA parliamentarians Sivashakti Anandan and Shanthy Sriskandaraja along with NPC Councillors T. Ravikaran and A Puvaneswaran were embarrassed to see the protesters posing questions to them.

The SL Government Agent of Mullaiththeevu district Ms Rupavathy Ketheeswaran was also facing the questions from the protesters.

Their anger was also directed at SL Prime Minister Ranil Wickramasinghe who had gone on record stating that the SL government needed six more months to consider next step of a planned release of 600 acres in North.
