Sirisena has deceived Tamils: ITAK Leader Mavai Senathirajah

[TamilNet, Saturday, 06 October 2018, 05:58 GMT]
ITAK Leader and TNA Parliamentarian, Mavai Senathirjah, has blamed SL President Maithiripala Sirisena as having betrayed the trust of the Tamil National Alliance. Mr Senathirajah was addressing the Tami protesters in front of the District Secretariat of Mullaiththeevu on Friday. The demonstration was staged in support of the hunger-striking Tamil political prisoners. In an emotional speech, Mr Senathirajah said, the SL Government has failed to appoint a special commission as it had promised to look into the matter of imprisoned Tamil political prisoners. Colombo has failed to revoke the notorious Prevention of Terrorism Act, and it has not implemented what it promised in the “US-Sri Lanka Consensus Resolution,” which was passed at the UN Human Rights Council in 2015.

Mr Senthirajah strongly condemned the latest speech delivered by Mr Maithiripala Sirisena at the UN General Assembly.

The SL President was asking the international community not to

The TNA was now planning to take up the matter with the leading actors in the international community, Mr Senathirajah said.

However, the grassroots activists and the critics of the ITAK said the State party that brought the consensus resolution, the USA itself, had now left the UN Human Rights Council. The TNA has utterly failed Tamils by collaborating with the international actors who were deceiving the Tamils using the useless consensus resolution, they said.

What is the benefit of worshipping the sun after losing your eyesight, asked a Tamil activist citing the Tamil proverb: “Ka'n kedda pin chooriya va'nakkamaa?”.

Barak Obama and Hillary Clinton were providing an escape route to Colombo through the consensus resolution in 2015 instead of enforcing international investigations on the genocidal state. Now, Donald Trump's administration has left the UN Human Rights Council, emboldening the SL State to dodge even what it promised in 2015, the critics commented.
