A third transformer was blasted today in Pandaarikulam, about 3 km. south west of Vavuniya town, at around 8.40 p.m. this evening, said sources.
The first transformer was also destroyed in Pandaarikulam, a suburb of Vavuniya town, at around 1.00 a.m. in the morning by unidentified gunmen who caused an oil leak in the transformer that then triggered the explosion. Another transformer, about 100 metres from Vavuniya Police station, was destroyed in an explosion at about 3 p.m. thought to be triggered by a time device fixed inside the transformer. Officials at the Ceylon Electricity Board said that the transformer was replaced and the power supply restored by 6.00 p.m. in the evening.
