SL military wants Cooray to liaise with Tamil diaspora industrialists from islets off Jaffna

[TamilNet, Tuesday, 11 December 2018, 22:31 GMT]
The occupying Sinhala Navy and its intelligence wing have drawn a plan to recruit and deceive the business elite among the Tamils in the Northern Province, particularly the Tamil diaspora industrialists who hail from the islets off Jaffna, with the propaganda of ‘development’, informed sources at Ooraath-thu'rai (Kayts) told TamilNet this week. Under the pretext of facilitating infrastructure investment from the Tamil diaspora, the SL Navy wants to maintain its hold and open up the islets for more Sinhala tourists from the South with a large-scale trade and cultural Sinhalicisaiton of the islands. As part of this military conceived programme, the SL Governor is actively engaged in collecting details of Tamil diaspora industrialists and business owners, who are exiled in the West from the islets, the sources further said.

Last year, Mr Cooray was bringing Sinhala Buddhist monks as ‘blood donators’ from the South to Jaffna Hospital.

He was waging false propaganda that the Tamils in Jaffna were reluctant to donate blood due to ‘caste differences’ prevailing among them. The deception was later exposed as a PSYOP campaign by the Sinhala military-intelligence establishment.

Now, the SL Governor has been conducting a series of meetings in the islets where he was repeatedly claiming that the islands were long ‘neglected’ in development due to regional difference prevailing among the people (Tamils) in the peninsula mainland.

The SL Governor is assisted by a media outlet with Tamil diaspora legacy and which was linked with the paramilitary of the SL State during the times of the war.

Cooray wants to recruit ‘investors’ for joint ventures.

In his latest drive, the SL Governor is also admitting that the SL Government in Colombo was lacking resources to look after the ‘development’ of the islets.

The SL military has also advised him to travel to Europe and North America to meet with Tamil diaspora business owners.

A previous foreign trip has not given expected results. However, the SL Governor wants to make another visit, the sources further said.

A few days ago, Mr Cooray visited Jaffna Fort to promote Sinhala militarisation of the fort.

He was also actively abetting the Sinhala military to install Buddha statues in the islets.

Cooray has been promoting Maithiripala Sirisena's SLFP in Jaffna. He was also working closely with the Rajapakasa siblings in the past.
